Mombasa Grass is a long-term foraging grass if grazed consistently and if fertilized. It is well suited for cut-and-carry, where grass is harvested and brought a ruminant animal in an enclosed system. It is also used for silage and hay.
Leaves contain good levels of protein, 6-25 percent depending on age and nitrogen supply
CHARACTERISTICS
Mombasa can grow up to 2 Meters in length
Mombasa must be harvested and used as forage before flowering or 40 to 60 days old or before flowering
Propagation is by Rhizomes, Plant cut shoots 10inches in length when and if already prolific.
Plant spacing is 20 to 30 cm distance.
